WHAT SHOULD I WEAR
Informal wear that you feel comfortable in, being aerobic activity it's best to wear loose items and flat shoes with a smooth sole, not trainers as they make turning and spinning difficult
DO I NEED TO BRING A PARTNER
No, lessons rotate to ensure that everyone gets an even chance to learn and dance, this also helps beginners improve faster , but feel free to bring as many friends or partners as you like !
IS IT EASY TO LEARN
Yes, there is no complicated footwork [ 2 left feet...No problem ]
This allows for a lot of freedom for both male and female expression, most people pick up enough moves in under 6 weeks to try freestyles
WHAT IS A FREESTYLE
Freestyles are usually an evening without lessons just great music all evening, but at some of our venues we use guest teachers and offer mini workshops, these usually last about 45 mins and are great value for money
HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE
Anyone with a history of serious health problems e.g heart problems and/or joint/muscle injuries should check with their GP first, but most people benefit from dancing as it's a great way to strenghten/tone up and exercise.
WHAT'S A BEGINNERS CLASS
We hold lessons at Street, Yeovil and Ilminster. Classes start at 8.15 and last about 45 min and are designed for people that have never danced modern jive before. There are approx 20 Beginner moves and we teach 3 or 4 of moves each lesson, dropping 2 and adding 2 new ones each week but not in the same order. This helps you remember 2 moves from the week before. All moves are linked together so you can dance them later in the evening, even the most simplest moves can look fantastic . This style of teaching means we do not have to run a course.
WHAT'S A INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Intermediate class are run the same way as beginners. We recommend at least 6 beginner classes before attempting to move up to the intermediate level. You will learn harder moves including Dips/Drops/ etc plus improving your style. Your entrance fee covers you to do both lessons if you wish and many do use the beginners as a way to warm up, the class last about 35 min with some freestyle at the end to practice your moves
WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC WILL BE PLAYED.
You will find a mix of Chart Pop/R&B/Blues/Latin old and new and others. We like to play a wide variety to suit all tastes and ages but all music for modern jive has a steady clear regular beat. Modern jive can be danced to almost any music style with some obvious exceptions.
